Tuna, an important traditional food source for Māori, have been consistently undermined in the last century by a lamentable disregard for freshwater souces in Aotearoa. 

Hopu Tuna and Heke Tuna refers to the catching of tuna and the annual migration from rivers and streams to the sea.
