Rex Homan will have a Solo Exhibition at the Spirit Wrestler Gallery in Vancouver, Canada.

Rex Homan was born 1940 in Thames, New Zealand of Māori, Irish and Scottish ancestry. He lived in Auckland in his early years before moving to the Bay of Plenty. Rex has earned international recognition as a wood sculptor in the 1960s and 1970s and began working in bronze in the 1980s. His current work is influenced by the culture of the Pacific and displays uniqueness in its diversity of form and dramatic flow of lines. Rex has exhibited in solo, group and jury shows. He has won several national awards for “National Wood Skills” and is represented in corporate and private collections worldwide.

You might have seen his work at the Spirit Wrestler Gallery Space at MAORI ART MARKet 2011.

Nigel Reading from Spirit Wrestler Gallery came all the way from Canada to be part of MAORI ART MARKet 2011.

In his gallery are beautiful art pieces from Maori Artists, as well as art pieces from the North West Coast of Canada.

The Spirit Wrestler Gallery is honoured to have the opportunity to host a second solo show by Māori master artist Rex Homan from Aotearoa (New Zealand).

An exhibition that has allowed Rex to honour the birds of the Pacific Northwest Coast through his own very personal interpretations. Many of the birds selected are revered and depicted in the myths and dances by the First Nations peoples from this region of Canada.
